Facebook's fact-checking process
Updated: Feb 12, 2020
Facebook’s third-party fact-checkers can review any content on the platform deemed newsworthy, including advertisements, posts with articles, photos or videos. Fact-checkers rate them with one of the following nine options:
SOURCE: FACEBOOK
An advertisement rated false will be rejected and the advertiser will receive a notification of the rejection.
If the unpaid piece of content is rated either false, partly false or false headline, the content will appear with a warning and will appear lower on users’ News Feeds.
Pages that consistently upload false information will not only have their distribution reduced, but also lose their ability to monetize and advertise their content in the future.
Publishers can dispute ratings with the fact-checkers to get the penalties lifted.
